Picnic at Our Favorite Park

We like to mix things up a bit around here and try to find new parks to go play at.
Luckily, there are plenty of parks in all the different neighborhoods in our area.
We've been to this park a few times and the kids just love it. They call it the "Tree House Park"
because of the huge, 3 level play structure with a super cool lookout on top.

Can you see my little monkeys way up there?

Nolan and Jack

Loaded with our yummy sandwhiches on Rye bread, we headed for a picnic in the park.

Look who can cruise around the park now!

Hmmmm, should I do it? Naa, maybe next time.

I Blurbed my Blog into a Book!

This was so much fun! I turned the first two years of my blog into a memory keepsake for our family. It was easy to download the entire blog to blurb.com. Even the front and back cover are pictures that Jim and I took.. totally personalized and cool. I download a bunch of free digital scrapbook papers and embellishments from scrapbook.com and customized our book. This is an ingenious way to record your families vacations, holidays and everyday happenings as your kids grow! Check out my book!

Baby Bootcamp!

After months of worrying... what mom doesn't? And weeks of what we very affectionately call "Baby Boot camp", Mona Claire is finally crawling!! Yay!
* Bells and whistles, firecrackers galore!

At 12 months old and with no sign of crawling, Mona's pediatrician recommended she be seen by a physical therapist ( I think I posted earlier with the details). After what seemed like a long wait and several interviews and evaluations, we were assigned a wonderful baby physical therapist, Jen. She has worked wonders in a very short time with Mona who is now very proud of herself and in fact, quite a little show off! ;-) We are thrilled that she is crawling around, exploring the house and very happy to be into everything!

Thanks for all of the great work, tips and advice Jen!

Mona is so very proud of herself and such a little cheeseball
for the camera!

Easy Lunch Boxes

Have you noticed how many great blogs there are out there with cool giveaways? I've put my name in for a handful of them and never heard anything. Maybe I should have checked back more often, I don't know. My attention span isn't what it used to be. Recently I came across a great blog called Barefoot by the Sea. This mommy has a great blog featuring fun giveaways, mostly for mommies and kiddos. I put my name in for these cool divided lunch containers and a nice size lunch cooler from sponsor, Easy Lunchboxes, and guess what? I WON! I received my set of 4 divided lunch containers and cooler in just a week and have been sending them to school with Jack and taking them to work with me. I love that these are heavy duty and reusable so they will save all the money and waste from sandwich baggies. Each container fits a big sandwich and two good size sides/snacks. The portioned containers are generously sized and 3 of them fit into the cooler, perfect for a picnic or trip to the zoo! Excellent! I encourage you to visit Easy Lunchbox website and see all of the products which were the inspiration from a mom who knows. Also, if you're into winning great stuff, check out Barefoot by the Sea blog.

Nolan's 4th Birthday!

What a fun day we had today! Nolan requested a Batman Birthday Party and Hot Dogs for his Birth Day dinner. It's a pretty good deal around here when it's your birthday. You get to lick the cake batter bowl ALL by yourself ( Nolan let Jack have a few licks too), You get to go to the store and pick out balloons, what kind of party you want and what you want for dinner. After your special birthday dinner and custom made batman cake, you get to sit in the birthday chair! The kids think this is pretty special. We bring a chair into the living room and tie a big bunch of balloons onto it. This is where the birthday kid gets to sit, front and center when he or she opens their gifts.

Nolan is pretty wound up and is still walking around the house telling everyone it's his birthday, pointing out his birthday chair which is in his birthday room and carrying around his new cool toys saying " Don't you just love my new birthday toy? I just got it for my birthday". He got a barrel of monkeys, a "Cars" soccer ball and a Camping Set that the boys saw on a recent trip to Cabellas Outdoor Sporting Store. Nolan is just so stinking sweet. When I brought in the balloons he clasped his little hands together and said " Oh, mommy, thank you for the balloons, they're so bootiful!" He just loved his Batman cake and after he opened his presents came over and gave daddy and me a big sweet hug and said " Thank you so much for all of my cool presents, I really love them." * sniff, snifff, I almost cried. What a sweetie pie! Mommy's exhausted after the days events, including several trips to the store and hopes the kids will wind down soon, very soon.

Healthy After School Snack

Here is a super quick, very healthy recipe I've made several times that I wanted to share. They are great to pack in kids lunch boxes, for after school snacks instead of sugary cookies or even for a grab-and-go breakfast. They are loaded with protein, whole grains and a bit of fruit. Yum!

These peanut butter crispies are a favorite in our house. They can be adapted with whatever healthy oats, grains and dried fruit you have on hand basically. With 3 very active boys in our home who have seemingly bottomless pits for stomachs these snacks are a true life saver! Served with a glass of cold milk, they are a great after school snack. My teenager downs an apple or two along with several of these little PB balls.

*Millet is a super healthy whole grain used for centuries in Egypt, China, Africa, India and all across Europe.

Millet is highly nutritious, non-glutinous and like buckwheat and quinoa, is not an acid forming food so is soothing and easy to digest. In fact, it is considered to be one of the least allergenic and most digestible grains available.

Millet is tasty, with a mildly sweet, nut-like flavor and contains a myriad of beneficial nutrients. It is nearly 15% protein, contains high amounts of fiber, B-complex vitamins including niacin, thiamin, and riboflavin, the essential amino acid methionine, lecithin, and some vitamin E. It is particularly high in the minerals iron, magnesium, phosphorous, and potassium.

I just add the cereals and fruit then pour in some peanut butter to get the consistency I like. Honey gives it just a touch of Natural sweetness and keeps them from falling apart. I use my KitchenAid mixer with the dough hook and a firm spatula for scraping the sides in. You could start mixing these with a big heavy spoon but you'll probably need to get down and dirty and use your hands towards the end.

TIME 20 MINUTES ACTIVE 2 HOURS REFRIGERATING

MAKES ABOUT 40 BALLS
You will need:
2 - 2 1/2 cups All Natural peanut butter

1 cup Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal

2 cups *Puffed Millet

1 cup craisins, raisins or other bits of dried fruit

1/2 - 1 cup Honey (eye it, it's easier than messing with a measuring cup)

1/2 cup Wheat Germ (optional, I didn't have it this time, but it's in my original recipe)

Putting it all together:

Mix all ingredients together. Shape into bite size balls with your hands, adding a spoonful of PB if they become to crumbly.

Place on wax paper lined cookie sheets and cool in refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

Keep stored in an airtight container in fridge. These will be perfectly fine to send to school, they will keep their shape.

Fabulous Finds

I am loving this site, Fabulous Finds. She finds all sorts of cute things from childrens clothing and accesories to purses, jewlery and houswares. I'm more than a little jealous I have to admit. She gets these cool things to review so she can spread the word on her cool blog. I'm going to have to figure out how to do that! ;-)

These cute mop top hats are so adorable, I can't wait for the few weeks it's cool enough here in Az. so my kiddos can sport them! This site ZooniWear  has these hats, matching mittens and socks for sale.

Jack's First Day of Kindergarten

It's so funny, the difference between parents with only 1 or 2 children and those of us with like 100 ( o.k. it feels like 100 sometimes).  Maybe it's just that Jack is very active and loud most of the time or maybe I'm just not a mushy sentimental girl. Whatever the reason, the first day of Kindergarten was a very happy day in our house! Jack has been looking forward to it ALL summer long! He even was out of control excited when I brought home a few new shirts for school, more excited than if it were a  new superhero action figure.
He has been cooped up most of the summer since it is to hot to play outside. All Day Kindergarten is truly a blessing. He manages to focus and listen and even sit still. He just loves learning and especially ART.
It's been oddly quiet around here this last week. Nolan is adjusting to playing by himself pretty well. He has harnessed his imaginitive skills and likes to read to Mona.

Here are a few pics of the Big Day.

Getting his backpack all ready.

Britton, who started 11th grade this year *Yikes, was already at school.

Completely fed up with me at this point.

Mona's 1st birthday!

Happy First Birthday Mona ! Every mother says " I can't believe my baby's already ONE!" So I'm not going to say it...... I'm not! ;-)
Isn't she adorable?  Haa Haa, on a side note, Jack and Nolan say adorable sometimes referring to Mona or when I look especially nice, it's pretty cute. Jack just started Kindergarten and we asked him if he made any new friends. He said " Yes, Sarah, she's adorable!" ;-)

So anyhow, for Mona's 1st birthday we had a little party at home with Strawberry Cupcakes and gifts. Britton played Happy Birthday to You on his guitar for her. She got a cute little musical "jewelry box" with lipstick, perfume and a comb. It's the girliest thing I could find and she loves it! ;-) She also got a couple of new cute outfits. I can't believe my baby is already ONE!! I had to do it.

Mona is such a sweet baby. She is so happy most of the time and loves her brothers. She isn't crawling yet which concerns us. The doctor says she looks fine but sent for a baby physical therapist to come out to our house to evaluate her. Yesterday, a physical and a developmental therapist came out to our house and played with her for about an hour or so. They were both really impressed with her fine motor skills, speech and cognitive abilities, giving her above average scores. Her gross motor ( crawling, walking etc.) however are not up to where they should be (obviously). She rolls everywhere she wants to go but won't crawl.
So, she will get baby bootcamp training once a week for a while until she shapes up. ;-) The physical therapist says she really looks great and with a few sessions she is confident she will take off and be fine. She taught us a few great tips on how to get her to exercises her core tummy and oblique muscles which are whimpy right now. She already is showing improvement! GoBaby BootCamp!

So, I thought I would jot down a few of her milestones and favorite things that she's mastered recently.

Mona's vocabulary is impressive for a 12 month old. O.k. I know I'm a biased mommy but the therapists were impressed too. ;-)
